Cowboys Climb to 3rd in Mountain West Weekly Basketball Rankings

Before the season open, Wyoming, coming off a coaching change following back-to-back disappointing seasons, was ranked No. 9 in the Mountain West basketball rankings.

How things have changed.

With the Cowboys having finished the non-conference portion of their season 6-1, they are spending the holidays rank No. 3 in the Mountain West, behind San Diego State and Boise State by Mountain West Wire.

Mountain West Wire’s breakdown of the Cowboys:

After surviving yet another close game, this time against Nebraska-Omaha of the Summit League, the Cowboys improved to 6-1 in Jeff Linder’s first season in Laramie. The team is getting production from all over, including from veteran star Hunter Maldonado and freshman phenom Marcus Williams. It still remains to be seen if this team will be able to compete against stiffer competition in the MW, but make no mistake: this team is lightyears ahead of schedule in its rebuild under Linder.
