Drew Lamont Hits the Transfer Pool; Looking for 4th School in 3 years

Drew Lamont, who had not appeared for the Cowboys since the second game of the season, officially hit the transfer portal on Monday. Wyoming coach Jeff Lindor confirmed Lamont’s decision, but had no further comment on Lamont’s decision, according to a school release.

Lamont played at American University his first year, spent last year at Indian River Coummnity College, near his home in Plantation, Fa., a year ago, and then was among the recruits who committed to Wyoming after Linder was named to replace Allen Edwards as the Cowboys head coach last March.

Less than three years into his college career, Lamont is now in search of his fourth school.

Lamont, listed as 6-foot-8 and 225 pounds on the Cowbosy’ depth charge, played 12 minutes and scored five points in the Cowboys’ season opener against Mississippi Valley. He received 18 minutes of playing time in the Cowboys loss to Texas Southern, going 4-for-6, all four baskets coming on three-point attempts. All five of Lamont’s field goals in the two games were three-point shots. He also sank two free throws.

After the Texas Southern game, the Cowboys added returning players Kwane Marble II and Kenny Foster to the active roster. They missed the opening two games while they were on COVID watch. Lamong has not appeared in a game since the the two sophomores were added to the active roster.

Marble, Foster and juniors Hunter Thompson and Hunter Maldonado are the only players from the Cowboys roster a year who remained after the hiring of Linder.

In addition to Wyoming, Lamont was offered scholarship last spring from Central Michigan, App State, Stony Brook, McNeese State and Jacksonville.
