Wyoming Basketball Adds a 3rd For 2021 Recruiting Class: Forward Terrin Dickey

Four days after junior college transfer Drew Lamont’s departure from the Wyoming basketball program was announced by head coach Jeff Linder, the Cowboys received a verbal commit from forward Terrin Dickey, a graduate of Volcano Vista High School in Albuquerque .

This school year, he was attending an Atlanta-area prep school that reportedly canceled the remainder of the basketball season.

Dickey becomes the Cowboys’ third commit for the 2021-22 season, joining Ben Bowen from Mountain Visita High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo., and 7-footer Nate Barnhart from DeSoto High School in Lenexa, Ks. Bowen is the son of Ryan Bowen, an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets.

Without a senior on the roster, the Cowboys are believed to have filled their scholarship allotment for the Class of 2021, barring another departure from the current roster.

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound Dickey played in a controlled offense in high school, but has shown the athleticism to fit into the Cowboys program, which has an emphasis on an upscale offense, which welcomes the opportunity to shoot from the 3-point range.

Dickey has indicated he will enroll at Wyoming for the spring semester.

“Excited to become a Cowboy!” he tweeted. It was not immediately known how quickly he will join the Cowboys program in Laramie. Wyoming plays in the Mountain West Conference.

“I think he has an extremely bright future,” Volcano Vista coach Greg Brown told the Albuquerque Journal. “He has the athletic ability, he’s very quick, he moves very well, and he’s a really good finisher around the basket with both hands. His overall perimeter game is improving.”

Dickey, who is left-handed, played a power forward position for Volcano Vista, and is the latest in his family to emerge as a D1 athlete.

His older brother Joren, who played at Volcano Vista and graduated in 2018, was a junior linebacker this season for Louisiana Tech — which participated in the New Orleans Bowl on Wednesday. And Dickey’s father, Brown said, is a former New Mexico State football player.

“Wyoming really believes he’ll fit their culture, that he has a bright future,” Brown said.
