LARAMIE, – For the second week in a row, No. 31 Cole Brooks (141) provided the spark for the University of Wyoming wrestling team. However, unlike last week, Brooks didn’t kickstart a rally against No. 11 South Dakota State.

The Jackrabbits rolled to a 33-3 victory inside the UniWyo Sports Complex on Thursday. The loss drops the Pokes to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in Big 12 action. South Dakota State improved to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in league.

“Cole was a positive,” head coach Mark Branch said. “We knew this was a really, really good team, but we could see a path to victory. We knew everything had to go right. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it go right. You make your own luck, and we didn’t make any luck.”

Brooks, like many of the Cowboys, was battling illness, however, he was able to wrestle and did so impressively. He improved to 10-4, scoring a 9-4 decision win over Caleb Gross.

Wyoming couldn’t find a win anywhere else. The Jackrabbits trotted out a lineup that featured ranked guys in all but one weight class.

No. 4 Jore Volk (125) and No. 14 Gabe Willochell (149) fell via decision and major decision to No. 14 Tanner Jordan and No. 19 Alek Martin.

The Cowboys are back in action Sunday. They host North Dakota State at 1 p.m. inside the UniWyo Sports Complex.
