Cowboys Guard Kwane Marble II Throws Name Into Transfer Portal

It was mid-February, and Kwane Marble II was asked about how things had changed with a change in the Cowboys coaching staff at the end of last season.

His reply?

“The biggest difference for me is the coaching staff,” Marble said when asked about a sophomore season in which he has taken a major step forward. “I never really had a coaching staff care for me as much as these coaches do. I see it in my school work and my basketball games. I try harder.”

So what has happened in the last month?

Marble announced on twitter on Sunday that he is entering the transfer portal. He was still very positive about the Wyoming staff, and the Cowboy fans, but said he was going to pursue other opportunities.

No explanation of the decision was offered, but it be after watching the play of freshmen guards Marcus Williams and Xavier duSell, along with the transfer of Brendan Wenzel, a 6-7, 212-pound guard, from the University of Utah, Marble may have felt his playing time was going to diminish.

The Cowboys also landed Ben Bowen, a 6-foot-5 guard from Highlands Ranch in the Denver area, as one of two freshmen commits in the spring. Nate Barnhart, a 7-footer from Lenexa, Ks., was the only freshman recruit for the Cowboys for the 2021-22 season.

He did play 20 or more minutes in a stretch of 13 consecutive games before being limited to 10 minutes in the Mountain West loss to San Diego State that ended the Cowboys season.
