Cowboy Golfers Tee Off In Wyoming Match Play Monday and Tuesday

LARAMIE  - The Wyoming Cowboy golf team continues action with the Wyoming Match Play on Monday and Tuesday at the Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, Calif.

 

Wyoming Desert Match Play enters its third year. Wyoming placed first in year one and fourth last season. the upcoming events are the only match play even of the season for the Brown and Gold.

 

The Cowboys closed out play at the Wyoming Desert intercollegiate on Feb. 8, finishing the tournament in fourth place with an 854 (-10) for the second lowest tournament score of the season at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. Three players finished tied for sixth place with Jimmy Dales, Jaren Calkins and Kristof Panke doing so.

 

Dales and Panke had solid days shooting 70 (-2) for the final round with each adding four birdies on the day. Calkins shot a 74 (+2) for the final round with all finishing with a score of 214 (-2).

Patrick Azevedo recorded finished the tournament in a tie for 28th place finishing two over for the tournament. Davis Seybert also finished play five-over par for a tie for 41st place.

Wyoming, Colorado, Utah State, Pacific, UC Irvine, Sacramento St., CSU-Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara. The eight-team tournament will be bracketed with the latest golf rankings.

 

Top Teams

The Pokes will be the fourth seed in the tournament and will face UC Irvine in the first round. CSU Fullerton is the top team coming in ranked No. 69 in the nation. Colorado is the second seed and is ranked No. 73 in the nation with the third seed Pacific ranked 133. The Pokes are No. 135.
